Mortlach 70-Year-Old Speyside Whiskey on Sale for £10,000
By timbaysinger • • Category: News & Noteworthy, OenologyBottles of a rare piece of Scotland’s Mortlach 70-Year-Old Speyside have now hit the market.
Released under Gordon and McPhail’s Generations brand, edition of Scotland’s “liquid history” is the world’s oldest malt whiskey. It was originally filed into its cask in October of 1938. In a ceremony at Scotland’s Edinburgh Castle, the rare whiskey was escorted through the doors by pipers and a military escort, where it was sampled by a select group of tasters.
This limited edition malt was aged in a former sherry cast made out of Spanish oak. Bottled in a teardrop shaped, hand-blown crystal decanter with a silver stopper, the presentation is up to par with its taste.
Only 54 full-sized bottles will be available, each costing £10,000, while 162 smaller bottles will also be on sale for £2,500.
