Whitehurst-inspired $225,000 Grandfather Clock
By timbaysinger • • Category: Horology, News & NoteworthyInspired by 18th century clockmaker and geologist John Whitehurst, this luxurious grandfather clock harks back to a golden era of timekeeping.
In order to stave off inaccuracies caused by the differentiating expanding rates of the different parts, a single source material is used for this beauty – a feature Whitehurst pioneered. Most of the materials come from the same foundry, and many are even cut from the same piece of brass.
As such each of these intricate timekeepers takes six months to build, since some parts are cut by hand, while others are extracted using new state-of-the-art computer controlled techniques.
This grandfather clock has such precise timekeeping that bests even some quartz watches. Over the course of a month, it will only gain or lose one second, a feat other grandfather clocks cannot accomplish.
This ultra-exclusive timepiece carries a price tag of $225,000.
