Wellington Unveils Bass Reeves Special Edition Rifle
By Alex Neely • • Category: News & NoteworthyThe iconic gun company, Wellington Ltd., has unveiled the Deputy U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves Special Edition rifle.
With nearly two years of creation, the Special Edition Uberi-Winchester .38-40 caliber Carbine Rifle will have an extremely limited production run of 100. According to Wellington Ltd., the rifle is modeled after the legendary Uberti-Winchester .38-40 cal. carbine – the precise rifle Deputy Reeves used throughout his career. However, this Special Edition will accentuate the deep mahogany barrel with an engraving of scenes from Reeve’s life in 24-karat gold and nickel.
Reeve’s biography is the stuff of legend—a runaway slave, he lived with the Seminole and Creek Indians before becoming America’s first black U.S. Marshal, a position he held for 32 years. “This is a project that has been over two years in the making and we at Wellington Ltd. could not be happier with the result,” stated Wellington Ltd. President Jim Combs. “We believe Bass is finally starting to receive the respect and recognition he so richly deserves and we’re honored to do our part in raising awareness of this real-life western hero.”
Wellington Ltd. has yet to release the price, but it will undoubtedly mirror the limited quality of the rifle. A portion of the proceeds from each sale will benefit the Bass Reeves Legacy Initiative, whose goal is to construct a 25-foot Bass Reeves statue in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
