By timbaysinger • • Category: Collect, News & NoteworthyBeginning March 4 and continuing through the 9th (closed Sunday, March 7th), Sotheby’s will be exhibiting works from their upcoming Russian Art auctions.
Coinciding with the ‘L’année de la Russie en France’, this exhibition will take place in Paris and will feature works that will be sold at the upcoming April New York and June London sales.
From the New York sale, a selection of about 70 pieces from famed Russian Surrealist painter Pavel Tchelitchew – all from the personal collection of actress Ruth Ford – is estimated to garner $2 million. Highlights among the collection include Tattooed Man (1934), estimated at $250,000-350,000, and Portrait of Ruth Ford (1937), which is expected to bring in $150,000-200,000.
The London sale features 25 works from Russia’s leading artists including a pair of works from Konstantin Alexeevich Korovin: Portrait of a Dancer (£150,000-200,000) and Still Life with Fruit (£300,000-500,000). Alexander Evgenievich Yakovlev’s Titi and Naranghe, Daughters of Chief Eki Bondo, and Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky’s Swimmers at Dawn (pictured) highlight the sale; both are estimated at £700,000-900,000.
The exhibition will take place in Sotheby’s Paris salerooms and is an excellent opportunity to view some of the exquisite offerings from the auction house.
