On February 17th, London auction house Sotheby’s will hold this year’s Finest and Rarest Wines & Vintage Port.

One of the items up for auction is a 1982 Chateau Petrus. Estimated to go for between $20,000 and $24,000 (£12,500-£15,000), this bottle sports a sweet “leather” taste, and a soft cinnamon kick at the end. Sotheby’s describes the vintage as “unbeatable and stunning, with great meaty character. Leave it in the glass and it opens out gloriously.”

Other items up for bid are a 1986 Chateau Lafite ($12,500-16,000), 1989 Cheteau Haut Brion ($12,000-$14,000), and a 2005 Chateau LaFleur ($10,500-$12,500).

This auction will feature a spectacular selection of rare special format bottles. Some of these bottles are so large they equate to 24 standard-size bottles, and can serve over 144 glasses. Ideal for center pieces at large dinners, parties and special events, this sale is a wine-lover’s dream. The online bidding begins at 11am.
