No License Needed for $100,000 Martin Jetpack

By timbaysinger • Jan 22nd, 2010 • Category: Aviation, News & Noteworthy

For those who seek adventure or just simply want the latest gadget, the Martin Jetpack is a must have.

Flying in later this year, this $100,000 item is classified under the FAA’s Ultralight category, which means you don’t need a pilot’s license to fly it. All you need to pass is the company’s personal training program.

Powered by a specially designed 2 liter gasoline engine that produces 200 hp, this rocket can vault you as high as 8,000 feet into the air. Safety is Martin Jetpack’s number one concern; it comes equipped with a built in parachute just in case.

As a special treat, the first ten owners will get to try out these babies in New Zealand as part of their training program. To place an order, go to the company website as commercial orders are already being taken, with private ones available later in the year. You can register your interest in purchasing one to be notified when pre-orders will be accepted.
