New Romain Jerome DNA Watch Made from Volcanic Ash

By timbaysinger • • Category: News & Noteworthy

For the past few weeks, the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull has been a nightmare for European air traffic. Romain Jerome has scooped up ash that was spewed out if the volcano’s mouth, and has incorporated it into its newest watch.

This newest version of the Swiss watchmaker’s DNA series – the Eyjafjallajökull DNA – features both ash and rock from the volcano itself. The one-of-a-kind model uses the volcanic ash to make up its rough-looking dial, while the bezel – set in steel – is made out of volcanic rock.

Completing the volcanic theme of this innovative timepiece is the lava engraving in the case-back. Featuring actual lava that seeped from Eyjafjallajökull, Romain Jerome did this in such a way where it looks as if the lava is trying to erupt through the cracks.

Price for the Eyjafjallajökull-DNA model has not been announced yet, although prices for Romain Jerome’s DNA series is typically in the mid $100,000s, but can get as high as $500,000.
