New $1.3 Million Blancpain Covered in Diamonds
By timbaysinger • Jan 6th, 2010 • Category: Horology, News & NoteworthyFor more than 250 years, thirteen generations of watchmakers have passed through Blancpain’s workshop, each one handing down their own expertise and creativity. The Swiss brand, which has been described by CEO Marc A. Hayek as “a little bit crazy,” has done it once more with their newest piece, the Specialities Tourbillon Diamants.
This watch features more than 20 carats of diamonds set along the white gold three-piece case and dial; the only part of the watch that isn’t covered with jewels is the exposed flying tourbillon.
Visible through its sapphire crystal caseback is the Caliber 25A in-house automatic mechanical movement, made up of 238 different components with 29 gems and a power reserve of 169 hours. The hours are distinguished by twelve individual lines of diamonds…even the hands have some on them.
Held together by a reptile strap with a matching 18k gold diamond covered buckle, this fascinating timepiece is worth every bit of its $1,342,700 price tag.
