McLaren’s New Automotive Line Unveils £175,000 MP4-12C

By Alex Neely • Mar 18th, 2010 • Category: Automobile, News & Noteworthy

The McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) surprised the recession-ridden automotive industry by launching McLaren Automotive. This new line is comprised of highly efficient, high-performance sports cars.

Propelling the new concept, the £125,000 to £175,000 MP4-12C is a lightweight, mid-engine, two-seat sports car. McLaren Automotive will only deliver up to 1,000 in 2011, brandishing it one of the limited editions to keep an eye on.

Stately in the McLaren tradition, the 12-C is encompassed with originality, from the V8 twin-turbo race-derived engine, to the internal switches and electronics. Following past production of McLaren, the core of the 12C is enlaced with premier carbon. Although the 12C appears to be similar to McLaren’s past automobiles, the MonoCell changes that perspective immediately. As a revolutionary one-piece molded carbon chassis, the MonoCell envelops the vehicle to create a strong, yet lightweight technology.

Adding to the lightweight effect, McLaren installed the 12C with panels of aluminum and SMC that are actually 11 percent lighter than any other vehicle. This innovative interior and sleek exterior allows the 12C to channel air rapidly and efficiently for cooling, down force, and/or aerodynamic purposes.

On top of advancing automotive technology, McLaren’s new line will directly result in 300 new jobs, and indirectly in thousands.
