March promises to be a strong month for Bonhams, with over eighty sales slated to take place. Along with their many department auctions and “The Chester Auction,” which takes place from the 16^th – 18^th, the auction house also has a few specials sprinkled in.

After kicking off the month with “The Antonio and Liliane Mariani Collection: Continental and English Furniture and Decorative Arts-Part III,” where a Northern Italian Renaissance iron mounted walnut table ($25,000-35,000) is the prize piece, the highlight of the early weeks begins on the seventh. Continuing through April 7^th, this unique selling exhibition entitled “Pure Sixties. Pure Bailey.”  features a collection of iconic images from photographer David Bailey. These prints celebrate the cultural icons from the 1960s, including John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, and Michael Caine.

The latter half of March is highlighted by three auctions of very different items. On the 15^th, “Fine Oriental Rugs and Carpets” is accented by a Ziglar Sultanabad carpet from Central Persia ($80,000-120,000). Two days later a sale of 20^th Century British Art offers up a stunning collection of the England’s best artists, most notably Sir Alfred James Munnings’ The Start (£500,000-700,000). On the 24^th Jacob Hendrik Pierneef’s An extensive view of farmlands takes the center stage at “The South African Sale, Part 2.”
