In a lavish debut, India has launched their most opulent and expensive train service ever. At tickets priced up to $2,500 a person, experience the country’s most luxurious rail travel.
This past Saturday the Maharaja Train service launched their successful maiden journey from Kolkata to New Delhi, displaying a remarkable convenience of watching the country glide by.
Accommodating 84 passengers, the entire train is lined with suites, each featuring private bathrooms and plasma televisions. In addition to the elegant lodging, the Maharaja Train’s passengers may indulge in the two restaurants (Indian and Western), bar, card tables, and an observation lounge. Ensuring each passenger a smooth ride, Maharaja also bolstered the rail service with top-of-the-line, innovative suspension.
Although India’s vast railway network is a host to several luxury trains (e.g. Maharashtra, Deccan Odyssey, Golden Chariot), the Maharaja is the only service that will travel throughout India. Individuals can choose from a variety of week-long trips; each featuring their own highlighted stop, such as, the holy city of Varanasi and the Taj Mahal in Agra.
With a total investment of 600 million rupees, the Maharaja has truly created what they set out for: “A wonderful venture to show India in a romantic fashion and with such modern comforts.”
