Lamborghini’s New LP 570-4 Superleggera Gallardo
By timbaysinger • • Category: Automobile, News & NoteworthyLast week at the Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini showed off its new top model of its Gallardo series: LP 570-4 Superleggera.
Based off the Gallardo LP 560-4, the famed automobile titan trimmed off 154 pounds to make this car the lightest road-going model in its collection. With both an exterior and interior constructed from carbon fiber – ideal for the manufacture of
sports cars – mechanical features and performance are enhanced due to the reduced weight.
The V10 engine with a 5.2L displacement gives this car a charge that lets it zoom past the 100 km/h mark in just 3.4 seconds, and tops out at 325 km/h (202 mph). Handling is vastly improved thanks to special modifications including dry sump lubrication and a 90 degree cylinder angle, both which lower the center of gravity.
Gear-shifting is a cinch thanks to Lamborghini’s patented e-gear transmission. Operated by paddles on the steering wheel, this system comes in three different operating modules, two of which can be automatic. The automated system shifts through the six gears smoother and quicker than any human reflex can.
Inside this ride, the sports seats are crafted from lightweight Alcantara instead of leather. Most of the interior retains the Gallardo’s black finish, while the seat trims and stitching come in contrasting colors available in either green, yellow, orange, and two shades of gray. They match the exterior paint finishes in Verde Ithaca, Giallo Midas, Arancio Borealis, Grigio Telesto, Nero Noctis and Bianco Monocerus.
Price has yet to be announced, but the Gallardo line typically cost somewhere in the $200,000 range.
