On June 16^th in Edinburgh, Scotland, a rare 73-year old bottle of Glenfiddich Speyside whiskey is expected to fetch £20,000.

With a 50-year old Macallan fetching £12,350 earlier this week, the “exceptionally rare” Glenfiddich is now being regarded as the prize lot at Bonhams whiskey sale next month. One of only 11 bottles produced in 1937, the 73-year old Speyside is one of the oldest whiskeys released on to the market – with over 64 years of maturation.

According to the exclusive tasting notes, the whiskey has a nose which encompasses a wonderful bouquet of “newly-dug peat, burned leather, old books, leather and oak.” The taste is described as “smooth and silky and wraps around the tongue with sweet flavors reminiscent of treacle toffee, crème brule, and toasted almonds.”

Martin Green, Whiskey Consult at Bonhams stated, “It is not very often that such a rare bottle comes along and it’s a privilege to be handling it. As soon as I recognized the significance of the bottle I got in touch with the distillery to let them know that we were including it in the auction.”
