For the first time in history, the revered ‘Crouching Nude’ painting created by renowned artist Francis Bacon will be auctioned off for an estimated $15 million. Sotheby’s will host the sale of the 1961 art piece on June 29.
The oil painting was first viewed by the world in a 1962 traveling exhibit. At the time it was considered one of Bacon’s most notable works.
A Sotheby’s representative said Francis Bacon is likely to have created the ‘Crouching Nude’ during an important time of his career. The artist’s paintings were always created from still photographs or memory.
Bacon, a postwar artist, created the oil painting of a warped female model after an affair with a World War Two fighter pilot. Arguably one of the best works of his career, some say the image evokes strong emotions feelings.
The discerning art collector will not want to pass up an opportunity to bid on this piece. For more information, contact Sotheby’s auction house.
