1929 Hamilton Metalplane to Garner One Million at Auction

By timbaysinger • Jan 11th, 2010 • Category: Aviation, Collect, News & Noteworthy

In an opportunity to own one of the rarest aeronautical specimens, a 1929 Hamilton Metalplane H-47 is up for grabs at the upcoming Barrett-Jackson sale. The aircraft is expected to collect at least one million.

Built in Wisconsin more than eighty years ago, this plane was sold to the Ontario Provincial Air Service, a government operation set up in 1924 with a central hangar at Sault Ste. Marie. Mostly used to transport personnel, patrol for forest fires, sketch timber limits, and take pictures, this classic model was essential to the pioneering age Canadian aviation.

Barrett-Jackson describes the plane as “one of the rarest and most beautifully restored classic aircraft in the world.” The aluminum-bodied bush plane – which has been refurbished and is still flyable – remains the sole survivor of the original 29 planes that were made.

Set to begin January 18, this six-day auction will take place in Scottsdale, Ariz., and will be selling vintage cars as well.
