£164,107 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Unveiled

For the past few months, rumors circulated over the release of Porsche’s most powerful road-going 911 to date. Well as of late May 11th, Porsche officially unveiled the highly anticipated 911 GT2 RS.

Built in a limited production of only 500, the 911 GT RS was expertly tuned to deliver a Le Man-grade 620bhp – a staggering 60bhp more than the standard 911 GT2. Propelling the new rear-wheel-drive road racer is the latest evolution in automotives: a twin-turbo 3.6 litre flat six engine. Nicknamed the Metzger engine – after the motorsport engineer responsible for the design – produces the direct inject of the new 3.8-litre engine. This paradoxical system allows the refined technology of yesterday to support the innovative technology of today.

The 911 GT2 RS’s drive is fed to lightweight 19in forged alloy rear wheels, through a six speed manual gearbox, and a unique mechanical limited-slip differential. In addition to the lightweight alloy rear wheels, Porsche chose a light carbonfiber for the bonnet, rear wing, and seats. The carbonfiber provides a 70kg weight reduction from the original.

Although the new Porsche is not the fastest-accelerating of the car in the 911 line, the GT2 RS still goes from 0-62 mph in 3.5sec, 0-124mph in 9.8sec, and 0-186 in 28.9sec. Constructed with the traditional 3.44:1 final drive, the new Porsche is geared to reach a maximum speed of 205mph.

In order to establish the proper overall drive-ability, Porsche installed an innovative chassis set-up that includes Porsche Active Suspension Management. This installation allowed Porsche to recently command the 13-mile Nürburgring Nordschleife in just 7min 18sec.

Priced at £164,107, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS will be officially unveiled at the Moscow Auto Fair in August.
