$150 Million Spelling Manor Most Expensive Estate in U.S.
By Alex Neely • Mar 12th, 2010 • Category: News & Noteworthy, Real EstateAt $150 Million, the Holmby Hills estate in Los Angeles County is officially the most expensive residential listing in the United States. Officially known as “The Manor,” the estate was owned by Candy Spelling, the widow of legendary TV producer Aaron Spelling.
The 56,500 square foot French chateau is nestled upon 4.7 acres within the plush Holmby Hills. Frequently referred to as “Candy Land,” Spelling’s property, features a parking lot dubbed the “motor court,” which can accommodate 100 vehicles and 16 carports.
Throughout the years, Spelling extended “The Manor” with several customized rooms – propelling the French Chateau to a size slightly larger than the White House. Among the bowling alley, flower cutting room, a wine/cellar tasting room, a silver storage room with humidity control, lies the infamous Aaron Spelling automated projection room. This room held several television and cinematic premiers since its completion.
Built in 1991, the estate has been not only been the stage for celebrities, but several political figures, such as Prince Rainer, Prince Charles, and President Kennedy.
The luscious landscape of gardens and citrus orchards is accentuated by the swimming pool, adjoining pool house, tennis court, and koi pond.
In order to properly house the staff, a service wing was erected with five maids’ bedrooms, two butlers’ suites, and a service kitchen.
Although it may appear easy to get lost within the 100 rooms of the estate; it is much easier to succumb to “The Manor‘s” tranquil spirit.
