Curtis MF Seagull Flying Boat to Fetch $300,000/$500,000 at BonhamsBy Alex Neely • • Category: New & Noteworthy
On Tuesday April 13th, Bonhams in New York is officially set to auction one of Glen H. Curtis’ most innovative designs – the MF Seagull Flying Boat.
Highly regarded by Graham Bell as “the greatest motor expert in the country,” engineer and aviator Curtis originally constructed the concept for the U.S. Navy, in 1912. Indicative of the technological age, Curtis incorporated an innovative and daring spirit into this magnificent piece.
After its initial debut, the Flying Boat was re-configured in the postwar years to the “MF Seagull” – bolstered by the increase of horsepower and additional seating. Known as the most gorgeous Flying Boat of his collection, this specific model has been made out of wood, hammered copper trains, and time-worn patina.
The last known Curtis MF Seafull Flying Boat is estimated to sell between $300,000 and $500,000.
